Point of Sale for Tickets

Modified on 19 September

Once you have downloaded and enabled the Tickets App, you can use the Point of Sale feature to sell tickets and store items.

We have integrated with Square to collect purchases through our Tickets App. In order to utilize this integration, you must create a Square account. All purchases made using the square device will be processed through Square, but they will display in your ticket reports in your Event Dashboard (which is explained under the Reporting section of this guide). If you need assistance for setting up your Square account, a link to the Square Support Center can be found here.

As a best practice, we recommend setting up this feature on devices (iOS and Android phones or tablets) that will be used primarily for on-site purchases. For example, this may be used by volunteer(s) at booths at the event that are reserved for tickets purchases.

Follow the steps below to begin taking purchases through the app.

Enable Sales Tax for Tickets App

Before you begin selling tickets through your Tickets App, you can enable self-remitted sales tax for your BYO merchant ticket app purchases under Financial >> Sales Tax >> Sales Tax Setup in your Event Dashboard:

When this is enabled, we will generate a report of taxes that you owe. The taxes will go into your merchant account and you are responsible to pay it to the respective jurisdictions.

Point of Sale Setup

Enable Purchasing

Once you are ready to start taking purchases, open the Tickets App, click the Purchase tab at the bottom of the screen, and you will be directed to register your device by entering the password you set up under Event >> CheckIn in your Event Dashboard:

Now, you can begin taking purchases through the Tickets App:

Enable Square

Once you have enabled purchasing, you can enable our Square Integration and connect your square reader. In order to do this, you must have a Square Account

To authorize Square (after you have created your Square account), navigate to Financial >> Square in the Event Dashboard. Click the orange Set Up Square Authorization button, and you will be directed to sign into Square:

After linking your account, turn on the Enabled Square Integration toggle and click Save Settings to enable Square in the Tickets App.

Next, open the Tickets App and click the More tab at the bottom of the page. Click Authorize Square, and follow the prompts to allow microphone access (if using a headphone jack for your Square Reader) and location access in-app:

Configure Your Device

Auto-CheckIn

When you are creating configuration settings in your Tickets App, you can set the Purchase Settings to Always Checkin to allow on-site purchasers to be automatically checked in:

CheckIn or Purchase Only Setting

If you want a specific device to be be designated for only purchasing or only CheckIn, you can do so in the configuration settings under Navigation Settings

For more information regarding setting up presets and configurations, see our Volunteer Mode blog post here.

Sell Tickets

Once you have enabled purchases, setup square, and configured your device, you are ready to begin selling tickets!

Click the Purchase tab at the bottom of the screen. You will see a list of tickets available for purchase:

Select the tickets that will be purchased and click Continue. You will be prompted through the purchase path where you can allow the purchasers to answer custom questions, purchase store items, and checkout.

Once you are on the checkout page, you can enter the purchaser information and the payment information OR, if you have the Square integration setup, click Pay Now with Square.

The attendee can then use their card to pay through the connected Square reader, you can allow them to manually enter their credit card, or you can indicate that you have accepted cash. The purchaser can decide how they would like to receive their receipt, and the sale is completed:

Once you are on the ticket confirmation page, you can click the +New Purchase button at the top-right of the screen to start a new purchase:

Reporting

Purchases made through the Tickets App will show under your Ticket Purchases (Reports >> Tickets Purchased) and Ticket List (Reports >> Individual Tickets) in the Event Dashboard. Purchases made made by inputting credit card information will display the same as a purchases made through your event website:

Purchases made through Square will display slightly differently. They will not display any personal information about the purchaser, and they will have Square Payment transaction information in the Payment Info column:
